I had written an eloquent post (really, I did!) about helping my friend Karen move into her house, and how it got me thinking about the stresses of moving, and how Tracy and I do it every week, and how much we have to cooperate and communicate to live in a tiny home, yadda yadda. Then Karen came by the campsite for an afternoon of silliness, and it turns out: nothing else matters.
Karen is my dearest, oldest, totally cherished friend, and we’re at beautiful Lake Ray Roberts, a little north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex in Texas, to visit her.
Karen and I became friends after her family moved in across the street from mine when we were teeny tiny. Ever since then, we’ve basically been as silly as we can be whenever we can see each other.
We don’t look all that silly throughout the years, but trust me.
We spent this afternoon sitting on the lakeshore singing songs from when we were kids, really belting them out, off key with the wrong lyrics and probably horrifying people as far away as the other side of the lake.
We decided we were hotshots who needed an album cover.
Which, of course, led us to wanting to be hotshots on a magazine cover. And, in a matter of minutes, with her phone stuck in the crook of a tree and free software on my iPad, we made this.
(The Show is a chapter of silliness from our childhood, and if you’re super curious, I wrote about it here.)
If you’re lucky enough to know someone who makes you laugh like you did when you were six years old, drop everything and spend time with them. And good grief, throw out any attempts at eloquent writing about them and just be silly.
(A couple of shots from Lake Ray Roberts.)
Till next time, Karen. 🎸🕶️🤘
Ah, that is wonderful! Friends like that are so very special. Good for you to sing your hearts out and be fun and crazy as you have your whole lives. That is awesome. Cute magazine cover. 🙂
I’d forgotten how good it feels to be silly with someone. <3
